Leh, May 05 (KNO): Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said that thousands of people from across Ladakh are visiting Leh to pay obeisance to the sacred relics of Lord Buddha, terming it a rare and fortunate opportunity for the region. Speaking to reporters, Rijiju, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said his visit was primarily aimed at participating in events linked to the relics currently housed in Leh. He said people in large numbers are thronging the venue for darshan, adding that such an opportunity is otherwise available only abroad. The Union Minister also delivered the Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Memorial Lecture, where he underlined the need for younger generations to understand the life and legacy of Kushok Bakula Rinpoche. He said Bakula Rinpoche’s contribution towards modernising Ladakh and reviving Buddhism in Mongolia remains unparalleled. Highlighting development, Rijiju said several schemes are being implemented in Ladakh through the Ministry of Minority Affairs and other central initiatives. He hailed the support extended to the region over the years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Describing his visit as brief, the minister said he felt a sense of peace after paying respects to the relics and interacting with the local people—(KNO)
